A beautiful pink box (seen in background of top and bottom photos) arrived today chock full of Alice goodies from my partner Adina in Maggi's Just Add Glitter blog Alice in Wonderland swap. What an overwhelming bunch of loot! There's a covered journal, body butter, Godiva's chocolates, jewelry-making goodies, some darling Alice fabric, gorgeous ribbon and all sorts of detailed, hand-made Alice theme greeting cards, since Adina is a scrapbooker and card-maker. I don't know how I will bring myself to use them! But I must, so other people can enjoy them, too. Thanks, pard'ner!

I'm Not Who You Think I Am
I'm not done with my collage (top), but then I didn't even plan on what it became. I had my niece Abby, 11, stay overnight Saturday after my son's graduation open house, and we decided to make collages. It was her first time, and I think she had fun sorting through my bits and bobs to find "just the right stuff." Her collage says: Try Hard, Die Hard, Be Compassionate and Have Passion. Pretty good advice, Miss Abby!
My goal was to make one large face out of a bunch of smaller faces, but then, as sometimes happens with collage, it took on a mind of its own. Each top half of a face got paired up with a different bottom half, and it became something totally different. Not sure how I'll finish it off. Abby took hers home. We put a hanging loop on it. We also flipped our hair ends out, made greeting cards and did rubber stamping and embossing and made earrings. Pretty good fun in less than 24 hours, adding in time to eat and sleep.

Published: My Cards in Take Ten magazine

The card uses the boy king stamp from Tim Holtz for Stampers Anonymous and a brown kraft library card/tag, pocket and envelope as well as puffy typewriter key stickers, an embossed initial paperclip, ribbon and several layers of papers to say "Smile-It makes people wonder what you've been up to." I'm smiling since I've finally gotten published by this major rubber stamping and art card magazine, the definitive arbiter in card-making.
Before I even drove away from the store, I discovered another one of my cards on p. 135 of the same issue. I used the template from an earlier issue of the magazine to make the "welcome baby" red dress card with buttons and ribbon added. I also made a matching blue bandana envelope, not shown. Naturally, I had to run back into the store to show off my other page!
I'm hoping this will bode well for the altered art, collage and jewelry I have submitted to Take Ten's sister publications, Somerset Studio (altered art), Belle Armoire (altered clothing) and Belle Armoire Jewelry, Somerset Holidays and Celebrations, and the upcoming Marie Antoinette magazine.

Some Saturday Vintage Goodness = Score!

As hard as it may be to believe, I don't often drag strange stuff home, without a plan. Oh sure, I will grab a vintage doll head here and there. But, this adventure to a tiny northern Indiana town to stores called "Petunia's" and "Serendipity" resulted in some unusual items and no plan-yet.
The green nightstand/end table was so cheap, it was needful. I am not sure it is all that old, but it looks like a fine place to store art supplies and books.
I also got a couple different batches of vintage greeting cards, some new and some used. Some were dated 1939. These will be fun for either altered art or re-sale on etsy http://www.hpsgsmith.etsy.com.
I also got a little wicker/rattan footstool/shelf/nesting table thingy. I thought it might help me organize my art and craft books. Other treasures include a nifty hat pin, another (yes) doll head and the little German? green table and four chairs, which are barely two inches. See. No plan. The table and chairs are too little for Blythe. Might go to etsy. Might go into altered art. Might be a gift for one of my dolly friends with little people.
Finally, the ivory box, which needs a good cleaning with a tooth brush, is some kind of overlay onto a wooden box. It feels like celluloid or Bakelite. I have no idea; I just liked it. I foresee a Marie Antoinette treasure box being made, or maybe just more trinket storage for me.
With the exception of the nightstand, everything in this post was had in single digit dollars each. Made my day.
